Wart & Verruca Removal

Warts manifest as small, firm lumps on the skin’s surface, often appearing on fingers, knuckles, or palms, while verrucae are found beneath the skin on the sole of the foot or toes, characterised by tiny black dots, which are blood vessels. While warts are generally not painful, they can be itchy, while verrucae might cause discomfort, akin to standing on a needle. Although some warts may vanish over time, seeking medical advice is recommended due to the lengthy duration it may take.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the primary cause of warts, spreading easily through direct skin contact or indirectly via objects like towels or floors, especially in moist or damaged skin areas, such as swimming pools or showers. Scratching a wart or verruca can further spread viral particles to other skin regions.

Cryotherapy, also referred to as cryosurgery, involves the application or injection of liquid nitrogen into the wart by a medical professional. This freezes the wart, and the process may need to be repeated multiple times over a span of two to three weeks.

Surgical excision, commonly employed for eliminating filiform warts, involves the use of a scalpel to shave or clip off the wart. Occasionally, multiple treatments may be necessary. Electrosurgery and curettage, a method that entails burning the wart with electrocautery and then scraping it away, can be utilised individually or in conjunction with each other.

The treatment process, determined after a thorough consultation, involves minimal discomfort, and typically lasts only a few minutes. Although anaesthesia may be administered, it’s often unnecessary as the surrounding healthy skin remains unharmed.
