PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma, is a treatment that harnesses the healing properties of platelets found in the blood.

Platelets play a crucial role in the body’s natural healing process by forming clots to stop bleeding and initiating tissue repair. When the skin is injured, platelets release growth factors like PDGF (Platelet Derived Growth Factor), EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), and FGF (Fibroblast Growth Factor), among others, which stimulate stem cells to regenerate new skin cells.

PRP therapy has become popular across various medical fields including orthopedics, dentistry, trichology, and regenerative medicine. Initially used to aid in tendon and joint repair, PRP has now expanded to include aesthetic treatments for skin rejuvenation.

In PRP treatment, a small sample of the patient’s blood, typically around 30 ml, is taken. This blood is then centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells. The concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then activated using a stimulant such as calcium carbonate. Finally, the activated PRP is injected into the treatment area using a needle, microneedling technique, or a cannula.

PRP treatment is particularly popular for addressing issues related to aging such as tissue atrophy, loss of elasticity, and collagen depletion. By stimulating cell regeneration, PRP can help reverse the signs of aging, including laxity, wrinkles, and aged skin.
