Skin Cancer
Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Skin cancer diagnosis starts with a thorough consultation and physical examination by our Consultants. Below is an overview of the process:
- Initial Consultation
We will ask about your health history, any concerns regarding your skin, the changes in the lesion, and your sun exposure history.
- Physical Examination
Our Consultants will examine the suspicious skin lesion, noting its size, shape, colour, and other characteristics. The rest of your skin will also be checked for any other abnormalities.
- Biopsy
If the lesion looks suspicious, a small sample will be taken from the area (biopsy) and sent for lab analysis to confirm if it’s cancerous and identify the type.
- Staging
The biopsy results, along with your exam findings and any additional tests, help determine the stage of the cancer, which guides the treatment plan.
- Treatment Options
- Surgical Excision: For small lesions, we will remove the cancerous tissue along with a healthy margin of skin. This is done under local anaesthesia and typically leaves minimal scarring.
- Skin Cancer Surgery: For larger or more complex cases, surgery will aim for complete removal while preserving the appearance and function of the skin.
