Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia)

Social Anxiety Disorder, or social phobia, is a chronic mental health condition marked by an intense fear of social situations and being judged by others. Individuals with social anxiety often worry excessively about being embarrassed or humiliated, leading to avoidance of social events or interactions.

Understanding Causes, Symptoms, and Risk Factors

Causes

  • Trauma
  • Negative social experiences

Symptoms include:

  • Overwhelming fear of speaking in public

Can Social Anxiety Disorder be prevented?

Treatment for social anxiety includes:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): which helps individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs about themselves
