Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder characterised by extreme fluctuations in mood, energy, and activity levels. These mood swings range from manic or hypomanic episodes (periods of elevated or irritable moods) to depressive episodes (periods of extreme sadness or hopelessness). Bipolar disorder can affect a person’s ability to function in daily life and, without treatment, can lead to significant disruption in relationships, work, and overall quality of life.

Can Bipolar Disorder be prevented?

While bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition, it can be effectively managed with medication (such as mood stabilizers, antipsychotics, and antidepressants) and psychotherapy.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and family therapy can help individuals and their loved ones better understand the disorder, manage stress, and cope with the emotional challenges associated with it.
