Milia Removal
What are Milia?
Milia are small, hard, white or yellowish bumps that form under the skin. They are often found around the eyes and cheeks but can appear anywhere on the face or body. Unlike pimples or acne, milia don’t cause redness or inflammation and feel like tiny pieces of grit under the skin.
Causes of Milia
Milia form when keratin (a protein found in the skin) gets trapped beneath the skin’s surface. This can happen due to:
- Skin trauma or damage to sweat glands.
- Blocked sweat glands in newborn babies.
While they are harmless and not contagious, milia can be bothersome, especially when they appear on the face.
Treatment for Milia
Milia may disappear on their own, but they can also be professionally removed through a simple procedure. The most common treatment involves needle extraction, where a sterile needle creates a small incision to extract the contents of the milia after the skin is cleaned.
