Frequently Asked Questions

This type of ultrasound is used to assess a lump or concern in a specific area of the body, such as the neck, armpit, groin, breast, or soft tissue. It helps determine the nature of the lump whether it is solid, fluid-filled, or something else.

If you or your GP notice a lump or swelling, a scan may be recommended to evaluate its size, structure, and location. This helps guide further medical advice or treatment.

Common areas include the neck, breast, underarm (axilla), groin, or any superficial soft tissue where a lump has been detected.
A water-based gel is applied to the area of concern. A small handheld probe (transducer) is gently moved over the skin to create live images of the tissue beneath.
No, the scan is non-invasive and typically painless. Some slight pressure may be applied during the examination, especially if the area is already tender.
Most scans take 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the complexity and location of the lump.
Ultrasound can help determine characteristics of a lump (e.g. solid or cystic), but it cannot confirm cancer. If anything unusual is found, you may be referred for further tests such as a biopsy or MRI.
Only the area being examined needs to be exposed. You may be asked to remove or adjust clothing as appropriate, but your privacy will be respected at all times.
No special preparation is usually required. You may be advised to wear loose-fitting clothing for comfort.
A specialist will review the scan images and produce a report. The results are usually sent to the referring healthcare provider, who will discuss them with you and explain any next steps.

I was extremely low on iron and can’t take iron tablets. The NHS couldn’t help me quickly enough and I honestly feared for my life.
I had two iron infusions and now feel back to good health.
The staff , doctors and the nurse were second to none .
They suggested I get further checks done via my GP so as to find the reasons why I had such a dangerously low level .
My GP sent an urgent request to the hospital and I have just had an endoscopy, a colonoscopy and a CT scan and await the results.
None of this would have been possible to be completed within 4 weeks without Chequers help and advice.
Thank you for giving me my life back.
