How will a Womb Lining Ultrasound help me?

If you’re preparing for fertility treatment, a womb lining scan (endometrial ultrasound) is a key diagnostic step. This specialised scan assesses the health of your womb lining and offers a basic evaluation of your ovaries, both crucial for a successful fertility journey.

How to prepare

Finish drinking 1 litre of water 1 hour before the scan for the external part of the Ultrasound. Then empty your bladder before the internal scan. The internal (transvaginal) ultrasound used in fertility assessments is generally very safe and usually minimally uncomfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

A womb lining scan is an ultrasound that measures and evaluates the thickness and quality of your endometrial lining. It helps determine whether your womb is in the optimal condition for embryo implantation and fertility treatment.

The ideal time for a womb lining scan depends on your menstrual cycle and fertility treatment plan. It’s often performed mid-cycle (around day 10–14) or as advised by your fertility specialist.

The scan typically takes 15–20 minutes, and you’ll receive your results the same day.

If the scan is performed transvaginally, you won’t need a full bladder. For transabdominal scans, a full bladder may be required to improve image clarity.

A transvaginal scan may feel slightly uncomfortable but should not be painful. Our experienced sonographers ensure your comfort and dignity at all times.

The scan provides detailed information about:

  • The thickness and appearance of your womb lining
  • The condition and readiness of your ovaries
  • The position of any intrauterine device (IUCD), if applicable

Yes. We accept referrals from all fertility specialists and clinics. You can also self-refer if you’re preparing for treatment privately.

You’ll receive same-day results along with a digital report and images that you can share directly with your fertility specialist.

This scan typically costs £69
