What to Expect During Your Iron Infusion at Chequers Health Group
Never had an iron infusion before? Don’t panic! Here’s exactly what happens when you come to Chequers, Bolton.
Before your appointment
- You’ll get a call or letter with your time slot.
- Don’t worry about special clothes—just come as you are.
- Eat and drink as normal, unless your doctor says otherwise.
When you arrive
- Reception says hello, you check in
- Nurse will chat with you about how you’re feeling, answer your questions, and check your blood pressure
- You’ll be shown to a comfy seat (seriously, our chairs are pretty good)
The actual infusion
- Nurse puts a small cannula (plastic tube) in your arm—quick scratch, then done
- The iron drips in over 40 to 60 minutes
- You can read, listen to music, watch your phone, or just relax
- The nurse will always stay with you, so if you feel odd, just say
Afterwards
- Nurse checks you’re okay, removes the cannula
- You can go home—some feel tired, some feel fine
- Take it easy for the rest of the day
Iron infusion recovery
Most feel back to normal quickly, but don’t plan a busy day just in case. Drink water, have a snack, and put your feet up if you can.
